We recently came across a thoughtful article onthe Forbes website which, although written from the American perspective, has direct applicability to the NZ situation.
The article is by John MacIntosh, and starts:
“For many people, the last few weeks have been a time of holidays, getting together with family, New Year’s resolutions, and now the dread of returning to work. This is the time of year when people can be tempted to ask themselves: “What do I want to do with my life?”
This is a non-question for most Americans whose financial precarity leaves them little choice but to keep on keepin’ on: stay employed, hope for a raise, pay off the mortgage, avoid a healthcare-related financial catastrophe, etc. But given the extreme level of inequality in our society ….”
