I understand that the law around charities has recently changed. How will this affect me?
Full details of the changes brought about by The Charities Amendment Act 2012 are contained in an article on the Charities Commission website: http://www.charities.govt.nz/news/charities-act-changes/
Essentially there are 3 changes:
1. You must inform the Charities Commission if an officer becomes disqualified
2. Charities (other than trusts) must provide certification for the members of their highest governing body and all who can significantly influence the charity’s management and administration
3. The change clarifies the definition of charitable purpose in relation to amateur sport. It does not affect any sports clubs who are currently registered.
